FINANCIAL RESOURCE TOOLS

The Advanced RTU Campaign provides many types of financial resources for Participants and Supporters: Rebates, Incentives & Financing Assistance, and Financial Calculators and Savings Tools.
Leverage the Business Case for Proactive RTU Replacement to calculate the financial metrics needed for an RTU project approval.

REBATES, INCENTIVES & FINANCING ASSISTANCE

  • RTU incentives database - This spreadsheet lists financial incentives and financing programs in areas for the highest energy savings opportunities. Join the Campaign to stay informed of new incentives and financing opportunities as they become available
  • Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) - A comprehensive list of incentives organized by state
  • U.S. Small Business Administration Loans - SBA offers loan programs to help retrofit facilities and buy efficient equipment
  • FEMP Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC) ENABLE Team - For Federal facilities, ESPCs can be used to overcome upfront cost barriers to implementing RTU early retirement or control strategies. This program is designed to permit a standardized and streamlined procurement process for small federal projects (ranging from ~$500,000 to $5 million) to install targeted energy conservation measures in six months or less. ESPC ENABLE is well-suited to meet the needs of small federal facilities, including those <200,000 sqft.

FINANCIAL CALCULATORS & SAVINGS TOOLS

  • Pacific Northwest National Laboratory RTU Comparison Calculator - Compares high-efficiency RTUs to standard equipment for various commercial building types.  It estimates life cycle cost, simple payback, return on investment, and savings-to-investment ratio.
  • Better Bricks Simple Energy Savings Calculator - Provides a simplified template for calculating annual cost savings, simple payback, and internal rate of return
  • Energy Star Building Upgrade Value Calculator -  Helps commercial building professionals assess the value of investments on a property's energy performance
  • DOE 179D Calculator - Estimates the energy cost savings for RTU replacements for multiple building types and locations and determine if your building qualifies for the 179D tax deduction.

WEBINAR ON PERFORMANCE CALCULATORS

On September 23rd 2013, the Campaign presented a webinar to spotlight two of its RTU calculator tools for Campaign members and interested parties. This webinar is an introduction to an RTU evaluation approach and two performance calculators that building owners, managers, contractors, and operators can use to evaluate their RTUs for energy and cost savings:
  • A simple approach to evaluating RTUs for retrofit or replacement will be presented showing how to include the energy and economic performance as determined from the two simple calculators are provided as part of the Advanced RTU Campaign – the Rooftop Unit Comparison Calculator and the 179D DOE Calculator.
  • The DOE/PNNL Rooftop Unit Comparison Calculator allows users to compare their existing units to potential replacements and to evaluate financial and energy savings results. We will walk through the calculator’s inputs and an example analysis.
  • The 179D DOE Calculator allows users to determine the savings potential for energy efficient improvements and determine qualification for the 179D Federal tax deduction. We will walk through the how to use the calculator and get a report approved for tax purposes.
The webinar gives an overview of a general evaluation approach and the two calculators, and discuss examples of how these tools can be used to help your organization evaluate the impact and cost saving benefits of implementing high efficiency RTU technology. The target audience is contractors, building owners and operators, property managers, facility engineers.
